G-OMYT Engine Change 17/11/2012

Hi, Could anyone please advise, asap please

Thomas Cook plane reg, G-OMYT flew from Manchester to Cancun on Sat 17/11/2012. Flying over Ireland, it declared an emergency & returned to Manchester, It then had an second hand, Engine Change 17/11/2012

Does anyone know the better specifics of the times involved in this specific engine change for G-OMYT 17/11/2012, & then presumably time to test afterwards. When was it declared fit for service again etc.

Clearly on its return to Manchester, G-OMYT engine would have been looked at, fault tried to be located, then a decision to change engine, then time to find a specific replacement engine, then when all changed, presume it would have had to go on a test flight, which would have involved, taking off slot etc, etc. ALL THIS IS TAKING TIME.

However, We are told, that this specific plane G-OMYT, was back in service long haul at 9am on Monday 19th Nov 2012 to Goa. Clearly the repair crew were super men.

However we are also told that G-OMYT did not fly to Goa on the 19th Nov 2012, but a different aircraft,, does anyone have the G number of that plane. Or proper time, or details of the events above.

Or if not specific to this G-OMYT aircraft, what is an average time scale for the above similar engine change over & testing ??.

Many Thanks.

Lucy

I think you'll find OMYT did indeed operate TCX139 late on the 19th. Why the interest?

G-OMYT 17th & 19th Nov 2012

We were on he scheduled plane Sunday 18/Nov/2012 to Goa
On arrival at 6am, told we were being grounded 24 hours

We flew out 27 hours later on TCX0138 to Goa on Monday 19 Nov 2012

On the plane TCX0138 flight crew said, On Sat 17th Nov 2012, G-OMYT was going to Cancun, it departed, but over Ireland declared an emergency, & returned, Manchester Airport Hangar 1, changed the engine.
The passengers were put up in hotels, & kicked off, so on Sunday, T/C gave them OUR intended plane, so they could go to Cancun on 18/11/2012.

We of course were grounded from 18th until the 19th, told we had to await for the Cancun plane to return, so we could leave on it.

However, they are now saying, that on the 19th Nov 2012 our plane ??,
G-OMYT was now fixed after having an engine change, & we departed on that, & that we did not leave on the plane just returning from Cancun ?.

So we were refused 27 hours flight delay, as they acclaim, extro ordinary circumstances. What is true, that they keep changing the story line,
& have never given a straight answer or proof as to what really happened.

So we will look into it as best we can, to find out what actually did happen, & if we went on the 19th on G-OMYT or not.

If of assistance, the plane going to Cancun on Sunday, is stated as being,
G-MDBD This we cannot confirm.

Between 17th-19th Nov 2011 MDBD did one round-trip to Las Vages and two round-trips to Cancun. I haven't checked all of TCX's A330's but I'm 99% sure OMYT was your aircraft.

Airlines have agreements with various parties for replacement engines and it's not a massively long job to change an engine. The basic diagnostics are quick so not much testing would have been needed before deciding to replace. Quick change of engine, an air test and ready to go.

It could well be the original plan was to swap OMYT with MDBD but everything with airline operations is very fluid.

At the end of the day you got to Goa and these things unfortunately do happen from time to time.

According to Libhomeradar G-OMYT operated TCX324 Manchester to Cancun on 17/11/2012.
It then operated TCX138 Manchester to Goa on 19/11/2012 returning to Manchester as TCX139 later that evening.

G-MDBD operated TCX324 Manchester to Cancun on 18/11/2012
