Posts to the flight test forum
Just a quick note, by all means comment if you agree, disagree with me.
Some time ago I did a lot of grovelling to Pprune CTP to get this forum set-up. By the excellent replies we get I know a lot of high quality people read - but relatively few post here. Could I suggest that if we want to make use of the FT forum a few more people could be a little more pro-active. This is a useful tool for us to exchange problems and ideas, and we don't all have the alternative option of talking over things in the Glove and Gauntlet. [And, dare I say it, there are people out there who might know things not known by the occupants of that hallowed watering hole.] Secondly, we recently had a post (admittedly in the wrong forum and I moved it over to Wannabees) with the title "help urgently required". Could I suggest that posters think hard about their titles, since it does help somebody taking a quick scan to tell if they will bother going deeper. Flight test info not available in the G&G, naaaaaaaaaahh. Genghis, reality check please??! :) You can learn all about eurofighter, J Herc, Apache etc for the cost of 3 pints of 6X. Why bother to post here?

For a start you can talk to people who don't have to write reports in 7 part paragraph. That must be worth something.

Personally I think that the flight test business is sufficiently different from much of what is discussed in there as to justify it. But, it's a valid point. Anybody else have any thoughts?

Genghis Hang in there would be my advice as I agree with the way you feel about Tech Log. BTW, does it actually matter if not too much happens here? At least the forum is there to get rapid access to R&D folk, especially the tp world if one needs it. Or does Danny want some of his kit back? BIT You may have missed what Ghengis wrote in brackets. If not I would suggest there are quite a few tp matters that you will certainly never get from the G&G – at least not until it is far to late to affect the price of fish. Bit like its no good drinking in the Vic if you really want to know what Eddie George is doing with his own money. The Squawking Spancam Over the years I’ve been faced with quite a few language issues regarding flight test but none of them involved Latin – are we allowed to know the programme for which you have responsibility? I found Chinese a particularly difficult case. Regards |

No, I've not had the black spot from Danny, it's just me getting slightly nervous as useage seemed to be tailing off a bit. I don't want to get to the position where Danny starts asking if we should keep the forum. Thanks for your agreement JF. I heard good words from my spies in the Belgrano last week by the way. 7-part paragraph is in my humble opinion like most rules - for the guidance of wise men, and the blind observance of fools. I'm off to play in Eastern Europe for a while, don't do anything I wouldn't. (Pah, you're all far more grown up than me anyway). I believe that the Vatican still uses Latin as a working language, do they have special needs for aircraft? G |
Just to keep Genghis happy, an update from KICT (if you can't work out where that is you shouldn't be reading this).
Flight ops got back to normal after about a week with a lot of false starts from ATC. The general tempo seems lower than normal certainly at our end of the ramp. Three of the local companies used the hiatus as an excuse to cut back staff - roumor has it that the Lazy B's conversion center at McConnell is history - but Cessna hasn't so far. Also heard that LJ Flight Test also hasn't been touched but don't look for work - a hiring ban is in place. You may not have heard it in the UK but B*mb*rdier (Montreal) Engineering lost 20% yesterday all - again no losses in FT and deH in Toronto also lost people. |
May I add my support to JF's observations (even if, on occasion, I irritate him) while empathising with GTE's concerns.
This forum I see as a very convenient access to the serious end of doing strange and interesting things and for seeking out the advice of people well versed in native tongues and customs. Quality rather than quantity ought to be more than a reasonable goal. If Danny is prepared to tolerate the situation, then we are all able to benefit. The tech forum attracts a far wider audience, some of whom know what they are talking about, others who are not so fortunate. Of the latter, there are those who have an interest in learning and those who, sometimes, are a distraction. Many of the remaining places to seek entertainment are, often, little more than that - not a criticism, merely one chap's observation - and I derive more than a passing value from all three areas. |

I also would like to "add my vote" for keeping this forum separate. I think flight test topics would quickly be lost if included with the tech log forum.
