I received recently a photo of a Boeing concept with turboprops.. also designed to fly trans-oceanic in ground effect. It would be interesting to climb around in the 'wigs' and talk to some of the guys who 'flew' them.

ekranoplan

That's the Caspian Sea based JSC R.E. Alexeiev Central Hydrofoil Design Bureau's kit.

Smaller one is Orlyonok A90.125 with turboprop on fin. Larger one is Lun equipped with eight NK-87 turbofan engines.

Very interesting machinery! I built an 1/18th scale Power Augmented Ram WIGEC for university major project back in 1991. Flew it round the sports hall at 88km/h as well as windtunnel tested with ground board.

Maybe with increasing environmental pollution concerns and higher fuel prices we may see a comeback for WIGs in the next 50 years!

How does one contact the manufacturers of these machines to set up a meeting? Who flies into this region besides Aeroflot?

I had a meeting with Sukhoi DB in Moskva back in 1992. That was through contacts made at the Farnborough airshow. Best way is to learn Russian or find a good translator!
