Flight testing EGPWS

Hi All,

Next month the first aircraft in our fleet will go into the hangar to install a Honeywell EGPWS.
After this first aircraft we plan to perform a test flight.
Its purpose is to check system modes, and also to confirm proper installation of the first system.
Subsequent aircraft will not be subject to flight testing.

At this stage I'm planning this test flight. Honeywell has certain test sites in its documentation, however this will require a 4 hour test flight to reach the nearest destination.
I am looking for people who have already performed flight tests of a EGPWS without proceding to the test site.
I would be particularly interested in the flight test schedule.

Hi.
I did the EGPWS cert tests on the J41, and we had to fly to confirn correct operation and installation. We used high ground on Jura (just west of Glasgow) to check the E part of the system. As far as I know there was no option of carrying out the assessment on the ground.

The Mode 2 check (which is actually part of the basic GPWS not the predictive GPS-based EGPWS) MUST be carried out on the prescribed site as it requires a carefully surveyed slope of known gradient to verify the warning.

A note of caution, the entire crew should ensure they all understand the procedure perfectly (some site directions can be a bit obscure) and obey it to the letter. I know of a crew that didn't get on the exact heading and instrumentation showed they only missed the cumulo-granite by 180 feet!

We are certainly planning an extensive test program including test flight.
I was wondering if anybody had a test flight profile available.
If so, I would be very interested to look into it.
My E-mail adress should be in my profile.

Spuis,
Your friendly local Honeywell FSR should be able to provide both the site profile and the required test plan. From memory, they are also in the back of the Installation manual but make sure you get the latest issue for the reasons given above.
