Have you tried the book about the speed runs, ' Faster Than The Sun' ? Should be available quite easily, try Amazon or similar.

Great book. If you are ultra stuck, I have a copy.

First through the 1000mph barrier in level flight wasn't it?

Youtube has a clip of the Pathe news report on the speed record at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q03og...eature=related

The late Dennis Warren, - when I knew him he was head of Design Liaison, Dunsfold - was involved on the speed record runs.

A very clever designer & engineer, he was never even aware of the book ( we were at the same sailing club, and if that sounds snobby or elite it certainly isn't - one day Dennis had got stuck in the mud working on his little boat's mooring, ending up with a SAR winchman in about as much trouble ).

Anyway one of all the most rewarding things I have done in life was giving Dennis that book, ' Faster Than The Sun', you could have seen the grin 10 miles away - gone now, as is our mutual work & sailing chum, Charlie Solley.

Back to the point, another source would be to search ' Test Pilots Tribute Site' - you will get good results, the great guy running it 'tartan terror' helped me resolve a good friend's last wishes.

Regards,

DZ

Try the book 'Hawker Hunter'- deals with all history of the Hunter and contains excellent photographs of the a/c- many of only one-off varients built to trial specs. Certainly also deals with the spped record a/c.

thanks for your comments.
It is not always easy to find pictures about those British world speed records...I don't understand this because those flights made aviation history. I am currently writing a book about the 'fastest men on earth'.
British testpilots that are described in my book are Group Captain Hugh Wilson and Teddy Donaldson, testpilot Neville Duke, Mike Lithgow and Peter Twiss.
You find a lot of records about the British speed records during the Schneider Cup but it is very difficult more information about the records that were established after World War II...
