just for information

only as an info on copter PIO

during my time at an army heli base i I saw a video of a Sikorsky CH-53 Copter of the Israeli Army.
The were hovering in low level and suddenly the Copter starts oscillating. I seemd as there were waves going through the airframe - until the tailbeam broke off completly.
There after the Copter became a fireball.

The vioce on the videotape told that this was an example for PIO.

I saw the same video in Egypt in 1989 as filmed by an Egyptian news crew. They were moving border frontier markers using a 200 ft long line and were at a high hover when the incident started. I looked at the film 4-5 times and it looked to me more like they had lost a tail rotor blade.
At any rate, the Egyptian news man dropped his camera and got behind a rock, then picked it up after impact. So the impact was not shown. However, a rescue insued and stretcher bearers went into the scene and pulled out at least one crewman. They proceded up a hill and promptly dropped him on the ground! The news man darted off to another helicopter before the tape could be confiscated.

The Egyptian military person that showed me this thought that it was pretty funny. I didn't. I have no idea concerning the fate of the crew.
