ETOPS ETP Calculation
Hey guys,
which performance profile is being used for determining the ETP in an ETOPS scenario? 1EO, 1EO Decompression or Decompression? Each of those scenarios might result in a different ETP location. |
The last Flight-planning provider that I used, provided data for all three scenarios.

Some provide all 3 - although normally an admin setting to reduce visibility to one, which is the most fuel critical - namely AEO DP.

You ‘should’ have three..depending on your flight planning tool. All engines at cruise altitude (medical), All Engines depressurised and one less engine depressurised. As Compressor Stall said, you should always go for the most fuel limiting option, which is all engines depressurised, as you will burn more fuel at lower altitudes.

You have 3 ETPs, based on being high, low or drifting down so they're all pretty close to each other. They are also purely theoretical as 99% of EDTO/ETOPs is purely a preflight planning exercise in risk mitigation. If something does happen after 'entry', your decision making will be driven by the circumstances at the time.

Whilst due diligence should be given to all 3 scenarios, the limiting factor, certainly from a pre departure fuel calculation perspective, will always be planning for the worst case in terms of fuel burn, thus a decompression at the ETP, with all engines operating.
