Ladies and Gents, please what is the advantage of ETOPS approval

You need ETOPs approval to be able to fly at a certain distance away from a suitable alternate airfield, in the event that you lose one of the engines. Without it you are very limited as to the route that you can take. Obviously the greater distances which are gained with ETOPs approval will allow you to fly shorter routes as your range is not tied into being so close to alternates. That's the principle in a nutshell. There is a lot of information on the internet about ETOPs approvals for the layman.
