Load control
 

Can anybody help?

I have been offered a job as an aircraft dispatcher / load controller, with the focus being on load planning, preparation and dispatch of both manual and system generated loadsheets for aircraft. My only reservation about taking the job is to whether I need a load control licence (is there such a thing?) to be able to produce loadsheets...if so how do I get one? Should my employer pay for this or do I have to?

Regretfully there is no such thing as a load control licence.
Some airlines have an internal licensing requirement and will provide training others will rely on their handling agent’s training program for their own staff.
Personally I would take the job and not worry too much about this, you should get the training you need

Different Aicraft types should have different trainings. Even same aircraft but in different operators may have different configulations. The concept is same but still some variations by each operator. Airlines may offer the load controller the dedicated local control training, or which called weight and balance training.
i.e B744F, some airlines can use the increased ZFW but others not.
Thus, you have to pass different trainings by operators and then you can work for them.

Not quite sure where you get the information from but there is such a thing as a load control licence.
Many major airlines who have Handlers doing their loadsheets put staff from the GHA through their own Licensing procedure and issue licences which will involve an exam for each aircraft type.
A few examples are:

Malaysian
Gulf Air
Etihad
Air India
Jet Airways
South African Airways
Air China
China Eastern
Oman Air
Qatar Airlines
Royal Brunei

And no doubt there are countless others
