servisair redundancies??

more redundancies.............
What is happening with servisair? Word has reached my delicate ears that indicates that they have filed ANOTHER HR1 form. Surely they cannot be downsizing again so quickly on the heels of the recent redundancies?

undiemole 4th July 2009 08:38

Any particular airport or are you just generalising with your rumour

spirit of the age 4th July 2009 10:40

servisair in trouble?

grovelling apologies undiemole, we,re talking stansted here and it is no longer a rumour. Dont take my word for it-check around

servisair in trouble?

I can confirm--it aint rumour, but there,s more...... the ramp boys now have to go over to cargo and help them.Thats bound to hit the cargo boys overtime!!!! Not a good time for servisair

Hounddog1 4th July 2009 17:52

At least it will keep a high percentage of the guys in jobs, rather than send them down the road, in this climate, i know what id rather do ..

So I guess all the managers at ramp are still installed in their jobs, or have they got to go cargo aswell ??

fringe benifits 4th July 2009 23:13

yes Servisair are looking for voluntry, and yes the ramp boys will be helping us in cargo.
the company seems to be looking at amalgamating the ramp and cargo, this needs to be done now to secure the future of Servisair at Stansted.
If this does happen will the company need both cargo and ramp management, I don't think so.
Servisair are the first to start looking at the winter, look out for Swissport and Menzies to both announce redundancies soon
spirit do you work for Sevisair ramp or do you know someone that does ?, you seem to know more than your saying.

Servisair Ramp And Cargo

it just goes to show how many of you at STN airport are new boys to the game........i can remember the days when servisair ramp boys were halfway through loading a CARGO DC8....yes DC8....and had to leave that when ryanairs landed so they could do the turnrounds.......then back to cargo........water off a ducks back....its nothing new......its been done before ,it can be done again............

in fact going back to the 1980s...there was no such thing as a cargo ramp man.....just cargo shed men who never went outside in the sun or rain ....they built up and broke down pallets and the ramp loaders did everything else..........AND in the very early days all the gear needed, had to be transported from the north side across the middle of the runway to cargo.....it was like a day out for the boys.
:ok:

Fly1989 5th July 2009 13:04

Theres redundancies for the ramp at Liverpool aswell, they want to get rid of 1/4 of us. Just a couple of months after taking on over a hundred men (TUPE) to do the Ryanair contract for LJLA. Not good :=.

Hounddog1 5th July 2009 21:23

Trip down memory lane there Grizzler, changed a bit now, cargo boys been self-handling for a number of years and will still, just because ramp are having to work with cargo does not mean they will be reverting to working airside only.... cargo boys have found that there is a door to the outside world ..

Servisair Ramp And Cargo

Grizzler oh whiskered one, back in the old days servisair handled most of the airport. Those days are long gone.Servisair are the lame ducks of the airport at the moment.Time will tell if they come back from the edge but lets face it,what contracts have they won recently??

Servisair Ramp And Cargo

Food for thought:
Each time servisair downsizes its because it has lost work.Since they are contemplating another downsize the question needs to be asked...............What airline have they lost this time????:=:=:=

tigger2k8 6th July 2009 15:28

redundancies doesnt just mean it could be a loss of a contract.. could also be a reduction of flights in winter... have any of the airlines they handle at STN released winter schedules yet?

Hounddog1 6th July 2009 17:08

Its not what they have lost, it is what they have got left against how much it costs to do it, against how much outlay, and then all pitched against income , you do the maths !!

If you think about it, Iceland Express wandered off to Gatwick, EL AL found a new home at Luton and then increased flights to x6 per week, its all about money these days, if you are paying out more than you are taking in ... then cuts have to be made somewhere

The Smoking Gnu 6th July 2009 18:00

some correct points and a personal view.

The HR1 has not yet been submitted, it will happen on wed. It is expected that between 16 and 20 post will be lost from ramp and undercroft but final numbers are yet to be confirmed.
IF, and yes that's a big if, the ramp and cargo were to be combined this would logically mean there would be a duplication of junior managerial posts, the unneeded personal being a ramp manager, 3 Rso's and 4 Stl's along with staff coming to the end of their service opting for voluntary redundancy would probably make up more than half of this number. If all staff were told they would have to work in all areas of operation and not just undercroft or ramp or cargo, then i'm sure the request for voluntary redundancy would more than exceed the required ammount.

ReadyToGo 6th July 2009 19:35

As ex-servisair myself, I'm watching the operation at NCL very carefully. Seems they are very reliant on Thomas Cook/OnurAir at the minute. Unless contracts change hands, when TCX cuts back from its 3 based 752's in september, I expect to see some old friends heading for the exits. Sad sad times.

RTG!

TOWTEAMBASE 6th July 2009 20:24

Hey...SAT1, how IS that Thomson Airways contract going, people in glass houses and all that. Plenty of time to pop in the Servisair restroom to get em round hey :p

sat1 7th July 2009 08:23

morning towteam,Swissport just passed thomson audit with flying colours--100% Shift pattern adjusted to 4 and 3 to cover their schedule. Flexibility is the key!!!!!!!Yes I have noticed rather a lot of your boys sitting in the restroom with nothing to do...as have your managers, hence your nightshift having to go to cargo along with the day shift when idle. The future is red with shiny silver bits!!!!!!!!!!

TOWTEAMBASE 7th July 2009 16:28

oh is it, so you got that interview as a dustman then did ya :p

Thats an interesting point you make re management. Making redundant the ramp manager,RSO's and STL's would be a major reduction in wages, however,if this is accompanied by a move to cargo rest room ie give up rooms in sat 1,the savings would be substantial.
However,if they really have vision (and the gonads) then logically they would give up the station managers rooms also, now that WOULD be a saving.Sadly none of the above will occur as they are too set in their old ways.Dinosaurs come to mind.

16 to Go

Recieved a phone call just from a mate in servisair, his girlfriend has just been sacked & that they are looking for another 15 to go from passenger services alone?
Is the the H/A that Legalize was on aboyt in the closed thread?:hmm:
