CAP371 Calculator
 

I have seen demonstrated a CAP371 calculator programme written by a pilot called G B Hedges for a company called SB Aviation Software.

Does anyone have recent contact details for the above, programme I saw was version 1.4 written in 1995 and contact details are no longer valid.

Or does anyone use anything similar.

We have AIMS but its for quick calculations from the desktop when brainstorming solutions.

OpsBod - Try Glyn Emerton @ Monarch, he will have the details.
Its a great bit of kit and can't fault it. Should be given to all Ground and Air Crew.

Anyway why are you interested in FDP, normally its a case of ere's the plan - crew it. Then shift change in Ops and another masterplan and crew it again.

I see easyjet it listed, in the list as being a customer!!??

Ref your posting opsbod. I have a full working version of the said program. Its is my own copy and does not belong to a company.It is the same calculator you talk about. If you would like a copy let me know and i can send you a copy on disk.

JSR - how's the sand in Dubia?
Why the hell do you or anyone else need CAP371 calc? What's wrong with paper, sharp pencil and good old manual calculation. This programme covers the most basic of tasks, that any competent crewing person should be able to complete, without the aid of computer programmes. :rolleyes:
Computer systems have their part to play in day to day crewing and record keeping, but to rely on a computer for simple basic tasks, well that entering the realms of shear lazyness.
Oh & JSR, we may never agree or see eye to eye but good luck with the consulting & successful 2001.

Lalapanzi - The calculator is not actually for me, I'm just the middle man for a pal. Like you, I've been in this business for long enough to understand the rules and yes, all that is needed is a piece of paper and a pencil (and helpful crews) http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/cool.gif

Sometime ago I would have agreed with you re the use of the head over the computer, and I still believe that all crewing officers must be able to calculate last lands etc by hand, however, if you are working in a very intensive operation where time is at a premium, the calculator is a very useful tool,reduces the risk of error and does save time.

Caution though, if your FTL scheme has any differences from the base of 371, then they should built into the program.
