Hello everyone, this may seem like a stupid question but i have just come back from holiday and i am just wondering what the man that finally leads the aircaft out of its parking space and gives the signal for the pilot to leave, i have been told that this is called the dispatcher, but ime not sure.

Did he wear a headset and wave a red tag at the flight deck. It sounds like he was part of the pushback team. Some places this is done by the despatcher but not where I work.

we call them a pushback team one who drives the pushback and the other is the headset man . But i have also seen despatchers do this aswell

At many regional airports the dispatcher does this, but it is not normally a dispatch function.
At Lhr it would either be one of the pushback team, the ramp supervisor or the engineer depending on the airline

at our base it is one of the pushback team.
