Airside driving permits

CAP 642 Airside Safety Management is, i believe, just a standardisation of airport safety and airside driving falls into this. To get your airside driving permit you need to take a course and pass a written and practical test which is done by you company, but standardised by CAP 642 and regulated by BAA.

If it's anything like what I had to do at Gatwick you'll have nothing to worry about because it's quite easy. Although i'm not too sure about other companies and jobs. For example, I can imagine that BAA Security (who are allowed on taxiways) would have a more in depth course.

Thats cool, thanks :ok: I didn't know anything about it so was just wondering what exactly it was, i know now it's unlikely to be anything to worry about :)

The airside driving test is the easiest test out there. You can pass it without even taking the course. All the answers are just common sense, although some of the loaders have managed to fail it !!.

I'll be working in Airfield Ops, not sure if this includes ramp work or not? Not to worry, looking forward to the training and to getting started :8

Don't worry it's quite easy. You'll have some RT to learn as you'll have to go all over the airfield but you'll soon get to grips with it.
Just remember to listen to what you're being told and repeat it back.

Let us know how it goes. If you need any advice, I used to be in Airfield Ops... not for any great deal of time but still.....

Thanks again. I've got my first day on shift tomorrow, we're just trying to find a time to fit the driving course in. It's all good so far, you get to do work landside and airside, which makes it a bit more interesting i suppose!
