What happened to Aviance just disappearing into that big black hole ??

Northern Hero 25th February 2006 11:43

Aloon

rumour I heard is that the Go-Ahead group wanted to take Menzies to increase Aviances' ops at MAN, ABZ and EDI.
The other rumour I heard is that Aviance are installing their weight & balance system at ABZ for Menzies to use.

cleared for take off 25th February 2006 22:51

Menzies at MAN have swept in from virtually no where over the past 12 months. They skillfully used Manchester Handling to initially provide front of house activities for them whilst developing their ramp product.

Now after Manchester Handlings hard work, Menzies have taken everything in house and are providing handling for Jet 2 and Sky Europe on a full time ramp and overwing capacity. They also handle BMI Baby underwing.

Rumour has it that they are about to embark on handling Hapag Lloyd from April. Can't see a deal between Aviance or Menzies other than the latter taking over the former to establish a stronger contractual position at MAN.

Hmmmmmm...
I'll ask the good lady. She works for Menzies, at EMA and keeps her ear to the ground. But I don't think I can come back and tell you lot !
Sorry !:)

rumour has it thet Menzies are moving into GLA on the back of Aviance who are losing lots of business!

Westofhere 4th March 2006 14:14

Menzies & Aviance

There is no truth in the Menzies / Aviance merger or takeover at Manchester or anywhere else at the moment. The Menzies operation at MAN is now well established and actively looking for new contracts, following the start up with Manchester Handling. It was always the aim of Menzies to take front of house and ops fully inhouse and this was done in sept/oct 05.
Hapag Lloyd Express will be a Menzies contract from 01May06 and another contract will follow shortly, if not already common knowledge.
As to Menzies at GLA..keep a close eye on it, but dont count your chickens too quickly on that one....

Any Menzies employees on here willing to give me a quick insight into the job? I've got an interview coming up soon and really want the job. I've heard they're a pretty good company to work for (better than Servisair). Do all employees do a range of jobs each day - eg. passenger service agent, then baggage handler or do you get one job to do and that's it?

Thanks

MONSOIRC 7th March 2006 06:02

Any rumours about them going into Liverpool?

2_dollars 7th March 2006 12:06

I believe they are only interested in operating at large Airports. I wouldn`t worry too much if I was you Monsoir :ok:

Westofhere 7th March 2006 14:56

cleared for take off 7th March 2006 16:41

phoenix son its a chicken with 'bird flu'

Westofhere 7th March 2006 18:52

chickne...

A result of our ever improving exam pass rate perhaps? Maybe I cant count them correctly either...

poiuyt 11 9th March 2006 11:54

aviance at gla have only lost flybe. I would hardly class this as a lot of contracts, true it is a big one but rumour has it that servisair dont even have staff implemented to take over the contract. But the rumour at gla is that menzies are launching a takeover bid. Will believe it when its on per though:bored:

aviance-menzies or a.n.other

Firstly let me make clear that no employee of MENZIES or AVIANCE has any rights to post information in a capacity of an employee of either company because of the internal disciplinary code of each company that can constitute GROSS MISCONDUCT and thus could lead to instant dismissal so please ALL bear that in mind.
.
First rule of thumb if coming onto this subject is
PLEASE DON'T AUTOMATICALLY BLAME THE MANAGEMENT(Messengers)
.
MENZIES and AVIANCE are both listed on the stock exchange

(AVIANCE by the go-ahead grp) so no comments can be forthcoming from the companies to act/counteract rumour/claims of mergers etc prior to the stock market being informed or else "insider trading of shares" allegations can be pursued by the regulatory authorities.
There is no published/public evidence of any such merger in the domain and neither could there be without any due-diligence or financial considerations.
.
The last merger from rumour that became fact was
BMHS/REED/MAS/GHI = AVIANCE in the year 2001 for £72 million
.
FACTS ONE
AVIANCE did close down STN C/svcs and LPL in total
.
FACTS TWO
AVIANCE have advised that 3 LGW dept managers positions are being axed.
That is the positions, not necessarily the individuals.
.
FACTS THREE
BAA/LGW ground handling licence tender of 2005 leaves an extension period for BA/AVIANCE/SERVISAIR and not a renewal.
SWISSPORT were unaffected due to the new licence from GROUNDSTAR
.
FACTS FOUR
The economic climate is as follows
Ground handlers costs go up with labour/equip/office space/fuel/car parking/canteen perks etc
.
Airlines costs have to keep coming down to keep economic market strategy and bottom-line profit thus "encourage" ground handling agent to review or curtail increases and encourage "decreases" or add penalty fees for failure to keep Service Level Agreements in place.
.
The two opposite strategies have to eventually clash and market forces could well dominate suggestions of mergers of ground handlers or alliances/low-cost options of airlines to make a thing called PROFIT which leads to SURVIVAL !!!
.
FACTS FIVE
Any rumours have an effect on employees and their familes directly or indirectly as the recent resurrection of the Christine Keeler and Profumo affair has highlighted that sometimes denial statements are issued "He would say that..wouldn't he" being the most famous lines of the 21st century from Mandy Rice-Davies
.
So there we have an inkling into how affected staff/companies can be by insensitive or inaccurate comments but PPRUNE exists with a great membership and lively and healthy rumours and debate so congratulations to all readers/participants.
