SITA Messaging
Can anyone help?
SITA priority codes. I know that they are to do with the speed of transmission and also cost. But does anyone have a specific time frame of what the codes are? For example what is the difference in transmission time for a QD priority over a QU message? Is there anywhere on the net that gives a table of costs/times etc... Sad question!! WTD |
Ring the help desk in Hayes......:E
VEEPS :ok: |
Not sure about costing, maybe ask a SITA expert. I do know one if you really need to know that bad....
QD Non urgent Delivery by: Next morning QK Normal Usually 30 minutes QU Urgent Operational Usually 15 minutes QS Emergency/Distress only Immediate |
All depends on how much SITA traffic at the time!
If quiet then QD could be delivered quite quickly. On this, is SITA messaging on the way out? Why should we pay a cost to send messages when they can be delivered by email - FREE and with the right lines, just as quick? Anyone care to comment? Up the Lions:ok: |
in any case, we can already send SITA messages via e-mail, so there's a saving already !!

The SITA priority codes are essentially defunct these days due to better, wider and more resilient networks. You do not necessarily pay more for higher priorities either these days (QD QU QX are the same price now) either. Email is fine for some messages traditionally sent via the Type-B network, but you do lose the data security aspects; anyone can edit the content of an email. Just imagine a flight plan sent via email and some malicious ops guy with a motive editing it!!

Not if it's sent as a protected pdf file........
