Advice

Hi,

I am keen to be a flight dispatcher but do not have any working experience in the aviation industry (currently have 10 years of working experience in the IT field). Tried applying for aviation-related jobs in hope of gaining 1-2 years of experience first but things are not looking good. Right now I am thinking of going the opposite way, that is to attend the 6 weeks dispatcher course on my own in the US (I know it is very tough) to increase my chances of being hired as one, that is if I ever pass the course.

Is it advisable to do so?

My advice is, keep trying to gain experience at your local airport...check-in, or ramp.
To step straight off the street into the 6 week FAA Dispatch course is probably a sure fire way to struggle.
It really is a tough course and not cheap either.
Save up, and do all that you can to get grassroots experience. You will find that to be a godsend.

Just my opinion, mind you.
Good luck.
