What are Dnata like to work for? (Ramp)
 
Hey PPRune.

I was wondering if anybody could give me some insight as to what Dnata are like as a company to work for in ramp ops.

I am already in ramp ops at the moment with another ground handling company. We shall call them the big 'M'. In my experience, they aren't a great company to work for, don't like to look after their employee's, and don't have many, if any, benefits/perks to working for them.

Does anybody currently work for Dnata or have any experience with the company? I am considering them as another option, but don't want to go from one sinking ship to another.

I kind of agree that the big M isn't the best but by far isn't the worst I've experienced. I think it's station dependant on which dnata you are asking about. At least at the big m you know where you stand and can't see the company struggling any time soon. With regards to dnata at man I think it will be a struggle to answer as I belive they havnt started yet but are under a 6 month review. That is what I'm lead to belive. I think as some new handling agents are not cutting the mustard and need constant review. From my experience it's better to stay with the devil you know. Maybe some one who actually works for them might give a better explanation and you have to hope it's an honest one and not just some disgruntled employee from a previous handling agent bashing them.

Absolute crap, unless that is you enjoy being treated like a child by the so called " management". They can't sort out leave and they have no idea how to manage staff.

Chriss92 - That leave problem sounds like the big M as well....

Avgrad92 - All the GH in the UK are as bad as each other. And they all go through the same cycles, just at different times. Use your experience and move up and then leave for sunnier climates...

My mate that works for them , has nothing but contempt for them , management is made up with an ex- military type in charge , former Lt Col, in the REME , ( noy sure what experience of GH ) , next former Capt in REME , followed by a Colour Sargnt in REME , loads of experience ......others are former Swissport , Aviance , management , my mate also says that there's a hatchet man in from Dubai , but has cut it so bad That everyone is on double overtime shifts , no one can get any leave , at all , and you can't get any leave , go sick ...on 300 hrs, first 150 at full pay , next 150 on half pay , after that zilch ....and first day you lose a day's pay ....besides that ...lol

I used to work for a company where the top management were all ex military. All of the best jobs and sub contracts seemed to mysteriously go to those with military connections.
The previous management team all seem to have left in a hurry and without much explanation, is it a case of, as Pete Townhend said " meet the new boss, same as the old boss".

British Grenadier - At least there is sick pay. Menzies is a case of no work, no pay.
The Big M has zero sick tolerance. If you are off even for a day it's an invitation to the Ramp Managers office - no coffee involved, and you are then told you are not eligible for OT for the remainder of the current month, nor the next month.

Surely that is victimisation, not your fault if you go sick , no Union at Menzies then ??

The station I'm talking about is not "union" friendly. There are certain staff members who TUPE'd over that are union. However, it doesn't do them much good. And because they TUPED over they are not eligible for a pay raise until they sign a new M contract. And that contract makes their sick pay disappear. Heck - I advised my TUPE guys to stick with their existing contract - Time and a half OT, Sick Pay etc.
Victimization doesn't begin to explain the situation. It's all about the £££. So I left haha!
