Border Police procedures on crews

Hi,
I am a business jet pilot and have a question:
Somebody told me that there is an international agreement about Border Police procedures on crews at international airports. Actually, I was forcerd at an international airport in Russia by a Russian Border Police to hand him out my Passport and company ID to leave the aircraft for my walk around check.
If such an international agreement exist, what possibilties or rights a captain of a foreign aircraft has at an foreign international airport, please let me know the source.
