What makes the Ideal 'Rampie?'
Just interested to know the qualities that are expected of a Rampie?
What does the Job entail?...and are there any NoNo's about the Job, and if you were interviewing people, what would you be looking for in an applicant? It's something I've always been interested about |
a clean driving licence and no criminal record
|
Ability to:
Smoke seven fags on a three minute break. Utilise the entire four word dictionary in one sentence, with gusto. Throw a heavy bag ten feet accurately into a gap on a moving conveyor belt. Bugger I said conveyor belt |
Clean driving licence, no criminal record, good approach towards safety (or at least make it seem that way when the boss is looking). The ability to not get caught throwing the aforementioned bag goes a long way too.

Have lots of spare change for the coffee vending machine and have a liking for TV soap operas that you are forced to watch in the crew room :ugh: :=

Thanks Chaps,,I'll bear your wise words in mind upon Application;)

A superb inquisitive attitude to find the best hiding place that nobody else knows about. Don't carry a pen - use everone elses.
Great bunch of people;) |
Capetonian - I refer you to TurningFinals' post...you were not observing an Ideal 'Rampie'. He broke the golden rule and got caught!!!
OB :E |
just have common sense and own initiative.

Judging by last night in the smoking shak:
The ability to run ones bloodstream through a gas bottle fed combie boiler! Big respect to all you boys and girls who worked the ramp last night! About -15C at one point, in freezing fog at EMA. I am learning to understand why Hi-Lo drivers dress like knitted ninjas! Be careful out there airside, bored |
If they;d let me, I'd go up there with a bloody shovel...really hoping I get a chance to do the job sometime soon
|
Which Airport are you looking to work at and for which Ground Handling service? You can do ramp for either baggage or Cargo? I think cargo would be better for you if you dont like the tight hold of a 737! You couldn't swing a cat in there!
|
Back in my BA days it was the ability to watch 2 TV's side by side one linked up to 24hr porn and the other to ceefax..:D
|
Make sure your not colourblind too

Hi AirFrance...Newcastle hopefully..either servisair or swissport..not bothered about cramped spaces tbh...I want to work ramp doing anything.
I have completed online training (GSAT) and Airside/Ramp safety awareness...did it myself online....figured anything that helps my chances of employment there, can't hurt |
Never give up on your dream job of getting airside. You have to keep trying Servisair, Swissport, Plane Handling and Menzies etc for current vacancies. As the previous posts have outlined, you need a criminal record check, clean driving licence, ability to read and write and have a good health and safety awareness. Vacancies may be thin on the ground at the minute due to the out of season flight schedules. Come spring and vacancies will arise albeit on a part time basis but at least then your IN. Be patient and keep us updated on your progress. Good luck ;)

To be able to break wind and swear, both in large amounts, everything else is optional :}

Hi AirFrance
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. Yes, I'm all ready to attack come Jan-Feb-Mar time..am in touch with a nice lady from Servisair...CV brushed up...checkable five year work record sorted. Will let you know how I get on. Again, thanks for what you've said..I really appreciate it |
a willingness to play cards for hours on end?????
