Which routes overfly Brunei?
 

I'm struggling to determine - using Jepp Pacific Basin, Jepp charts and Jeppview - just which routes very near Brunei require overflying permission, other than those that directly overfly Brunei itself. At the crux of the puzzle is working out just which airspace boundary applies to Brunei.

I'd appreciate it if anyone is able to shed some light on this for me, but not a showstopper, since I have other means to investigate when I get back to work in another day.

I havent got the charts in front of me so can't give you a routing as such to avoid Brunei itself, but its worth remembering that their "territoral airspace" only extends 12 nautical miles from their physical shoreline (based on the '82 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea... are those yawns i can hear?!) so you can still fly in their FIR without requiring a specific overflight permit.

It is possible to go off airways to skirt around Brunei, just look out for islands and enclaves that are considered part of the Kingdom.

May I ask why you want to stay outside of Brunei airspace. It is only a small area and it is on the normal airway system.

Thanks Buzz, no not quite yawning - it is always good to know background information.

First up, this is for a non-scheduled revenue flight, Manila to Jakarta, thus RPLL B348 VJN B592 WIII. At it's closest point, B592 scoots past Brunei around 20nm to the south east.

My reading of the regs (for a non-scheduled revenue flight) is that I probably don't need to worry about overflight permission at all, even if directly overhead Brunei. I think the only issue with non-sked revenue flights is if you're landing, but then again, I'm not absolutely positive.

As mentioned, this is no showstopper. I was away from work and mulling over it, but am back now so might simply track down their AIS and flick them an email.

Any thoughts comments about this or other overflight/landing permit rules of thumb are welcome.

Hi,does anybody know what is the navigation charges when landing at HSSS,it seems CHF 2400 a little bit strange. this price indicated in IATA document.I would highly appreciated if someone tell the actual,if had a experience of flights via HSSS.Many thanks in advance...
