Who is responsible for aircraft safety while being marshalled?
 

If an aircraft is damaged while crew are following ground marshall's instructions, who is held responsible?

The safe operation of an aircrat is always the responsibility of the Pilot-in-Command. It is imperative that Crew remain vigilent and situationally aware whilst in the care of a Marshaller.

Totally agree the Capt is totally in command of any aircraft ,he/she is fully responsible and should take it upon themselves to either agree/or disagree with ground instructions

When I worked at MAN, handled a one a/c outfit with a Banderante operating MAN-NWI or something like that. It was being marshelled, and the prop struck one of those red/white metal barrier things on wheels.

Was a right who-har between the airline and the airport about who was responsible as the marsheller was indicating the a/c to turn, but the a/c did not have the turn radius as tight as the marsheller wanted it to turn !!.

Never actually found out who paid out in the end, guess it was the airlines as they always seem to have to foot the bill for Airport Authority mistakes/inadequacies !!.

There are times, however, where aircrew are totally unsighted (eg tail, nosewheel) and then they do have to blindly follow marshalling instructions (or stop and get out of the aircraft).
