Rumor is the BD will be taking over the LH check-in and dispatch at LHR by about Christmas. Also the OS and LX in due time.

Unsure about the ramp at present as Aviance is pulling out of LHR and not sure who will be taking over.

Lufthansa Heathrow

Noticed Aviance were handling my Lufthansa flight last week. When did Menzies lose the contract?

Lots of misguided information here.

Aviance currently hold the Ramp contract for BMI & Lufthansa / Swiss.
However as Aviance are selling off their ramp handling then they are looking for a buyer for the business.
BMI do their own Check-in and Ops for BMI whilst Menzies do check-in and ops for Lufthansa and Swiss, once Aviance bail out then it may all become a bit clearer

Almost correct - Aviance don't provide any service to Swiss. Currently, it's BD, LH, SA OZ and UN....

As a matter of interest who handles the three BD daily rotations to GVA? Presumably Aviance do the ramp handling & LX's agents check in?

Just curious.

Menzies handle the whole SWISS operation, check-in/ramp/despatch, regardless of whether it's bmi operated or not.

Are Menzies the future of ground handling, with their innovative approach ?

I wonder how they will treat all the Aviance staff in T1 at LHR who are on fairly reasonable terms and conditions, assuming that a TUPE is going to happen, i would imagine that as a lot of staff are still on ex BMI contracts they will have things similiar to 1 year sick pay, holiday increments etc and Menzies if am i not mistaken do not pay sick pay.

Menzies at LHR could be a ticking timebomb with ex Servisair and ex Aviance contracts alongside their own staff.

Theres plenty of TUPE staff already working for Menzies on old contracts, such as the aviance ones (which have sick pay, o/t rates, double pay on public holidays etc..), and they have been for years.... without any issues

If TUPE does happen, staff will more than likely have the choice of keeping their current contract, or switching to a Menzies one.

And unless there is a pretty decent carrot dangled, what do you think they will do.

My guess is they will take the one with flat rate O/T, no sick pay, holiday entitlement with increments

Didn't they do a large TUPE in LHR in 2008 when they won the LH/LX/TP/OS and a coupkle of other contracts from Servisair? If this is the case, can anyone comment on how that went?

Always thought no news is good news. The amount of slating Servisair and Swissport have had on various threads on here I thought that Menzies and Aviance must do a reasonable job at least?

I assume TUPE will apply per UK law, where else have Menzies TUPE'd staff in?

Blue-Shamrock 89, if staff are happy with their current contract then they wont have any need to swap, despite no sick pay and flat rate O/T, sometimes the hourly rate is significantly higher and so is the bonus system, which they do have at LHR... it can balance out, however sick pay is a big keeper... after all sometimes staff stand outside in -10*C or colder, its normal for sickness to kick in... isnt fair to be "punished/denied wages" if you are genuinely sick

They wont discriminate against TUPE staff, however they might start to frown if staff members are constantly off on the sick... but doesnt seem to be a major problem...

groundagent, as far as i can remember you are correct, but dont hold me to that...however i know no one who was TUPE at LHR. I know there are TUPE staff working for Menzies at BFS who came from Aviance when Menzies was awarded the EZY contract approx 4-6 years ago now i think... theres only a small percentage who kept their Aviance contract, most opted for a Menzies one.

It was tongue in cheek when i said about them swapping, any staff who transfer will protected by Tupe but any company who have a vast amount of contracts will always be a melting pot.

There are people on servisair contracts at Menzies who transferred with the Lufthansa contract

Servisair: (Main Airlines...)

- Jet2
- Thomas Cook
- Continental
- Manx2
- Couple of freight - Maesrk and TNT i think?
- Most charters - Onur Air, Turkuaz and Saga all of which goldtrail used from BFS i think.. so that will have hurt them

Belfast Airport Handling:
- DHL
- Couple of freight flights during the night
