who's the best to work for?
greetings again all! I have made the decision to relocate back to the UK in the new year & am now in the process of sending out resumes all over the country for an ops position.So here's a question for all of who are in the know.In your opinion,who would be the best/worst companies to work for? Who pays the best/worst?who has the best/worst ops department?where do I have a hope in hell of getting a job?! just trying to gather as much information as possible so I am well aware of what i am getting myself into and also where where I would be best advised to focus my efforts.CHEERS TO YOU ALL.

I have now worked for 3 airlines and my present employer has to be the best of that bunch.
HeavyLift - Excellent apprentership but poor pay and little or no recognition of the role Ops plays.
JEA (Now British European) Pay worse than the above, Ops (Sorry LOGISTICS) now located in a semi bunker below ground, again little recognition of Ops role. They now have 1 Ops guy running 32 aircraft.

Putting a slightly different angle on this topic - WHO NOT TO WORK FOR.
easy - Air Cordial (aka Air Scandic)
That is of course only if you want a life, if not go for it if ever offered.
Cabin Crew - forget days off - what are they, must be prepared to fly whenever, otherwise sacked.
Pilots - same applies.
Ops/Crewing - 24 hour cover, without 12hr shifts. Expected to have 8 days off a month. If you want to ever leave 6 months notice required. If you don't follow the party line, (i.e. crew that flight or else, don't care what other duties they have done, were'nt used doesn't count) sacked.
So in a nutshell, want a life avoid this bunch of cowboys, flight safety, what flight safety.

yeah, 8 days off a month, surely thats pretty standard throut the world!!!! 4 weekends, no?
12 hour shifts, no no no! get a job at a regional that doesnt do anything except the odd charter after 2130. shifts of 8 hours, latest finish 2200, 40 hours a week.

4tuna - If what you're saying is true - and I have no reason to doubt you I would bail now.
Under European Law no one can hold you to a contact with a notice period of 6 months and your definitely working more than the legal amount.
Oh and for safety I would have a word with your Flight Ops inspector on the way out.

4tuna - You are obviously a sad individual who gets kicks from slagging people and compnaies off. I seem to remember that these forums were for open discussion and rumours. You find pleasure from using them for slander 
If you think Air Scandic operate under such poor regime, then why did you never do or say anything to defend your comments 
Come on, we all know that airlines are doing these sort of things worldwide. Maybe if you have such a low opinion of aviation and it's staff, you should get out and do something more appealling

This month I have 7 days off but 4 of them are after an overnight which finishes at 0730. Do they count as an 'off'?

How about Gulf Air? I saw their ad in Flt Intl any thoughts on them?

Well, some of you guys seems to have struck some rotten deals, or is this the average for UK ops ? Hope not.
Anyway, working in Denmark is 37 hours, 5 days p/w max. 6 weeks + 9 days of annual (paid) holiday. Salery my rank (senior dispatcher) about the same as our F/O's. Ops appreciated as the core of the business (operationally of course, not sales etc), very good feed-back from management, rarely any issues with flightcrew. Excellent "can do" spirit, and safety is our primary concern, not the schedule !
But would like to know what it's like working in the sandpit. Anyone with experience from that part of the world ? I'm considering a move to our AUH base.

Never done Gulf Air but I was in Oman for a while with Oman Air..not quite Bahrain or The UAE but it was an experiance..
Unfortunatly they don't like expats so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but it was a very easy life.
I wasn't shift work but their normal office hours were 0700-1400 and 0700-1300 on a Friday with Saturday off. Sounds awful, but you really don't feel like your working.
Money is good and I think you get a better standard of accomodation with Gulf Air than I did...!!!!

Did far too many years as a Dispatcher in Dubai, but couldn't resign 'cos the rewards were ridiculously good.
When I did evenbually get time off ( good behaviour ), Dubai was worth it in many ways, but Abu Dhabi is no Dubai.
I would concur that expats are not liked by "local" management and are expected to work every hour God gave us.
All depends on what you want in life, loadsa money or a half decent home-life.
