Starting Problems Lyc 0-235
Any advice please on hot starting a Robin HR200/120b. Turns over fast enough but wont fire. It doesn't have a primer fitted, and I don't think it has an accelerator pump either. Handbook says it shouldn't need primed with throttle for hot starts.

starting probs HR200/120
Hi
I also fly a HR200 as a student PPL and this problem happens cold as well. Only fitted with fuel pump and no primer as you suggest. Priming is ahcieved by pumping throttle to full and back hot should be easy enough - maybe 6 pumps at most. Cold the a/c I am flying is a pig although it never used to be before it went for its annual. if I can help (although only a low hour PPL student) I will please PM me! regards Simon BTW its not Lima Golf is it! I am based out of Prestwick south side flying club |
As with a lot of piston engines I seem to remember form a loooonnnnnggggg time ago if you flood it or get it over rich on a hot start try the following : mix lean cutoff, throttle full open, crank on starter untill engine starts to fire keep starter engaged while moving throttle to idle and mix to rich. The trick is to catch engine when the mixture is about right and that is when it will start to fire.
If you had a prop I would say turn backwards a few times first however not a option in your case. As a bottom feeder in the early 1970's as a fitter it worked for me, now on the worlds largest "DYSON's" DC10 A300 etc and we do not have this problem it starts or not or catches fire! Best of luck |
