B2ss?????

I've just been thinking given the jar system of approvals are B2s really necessary for the running of modren line maint. as B1s seem to be able to carry out almost everything! On the modren buses next to all checks can be done without test equip. Also a couple of my B2 colegues are trying to do their conversion as they reckon they will be "expendable" in the future if not the present!!They may be relegated(no offence to base lads) to the base checks and a c licence!
PS don't mind spellings you get the meaning!

Ah,

But our saving grace is the autopilot. the B1 can't certify for autoland a/c can he?

That and the fact that although it says that a B1 can do work on avionic systems, doesn't mean that they are able to do it!!:D :D

Absolutly and when the IDG and GCU have been replaced where will the B1s go with power generation ?
BITE will only take you so far and then you need skill
The system is wrong and while the B1s are passing the examinations just by learning the answers to the questions will continue to be so.
Bring back the oral examination

The B1 certifies the platform for the really important stuff (B2)

b2ss?????

I see our b2 brothers have little to do apart from discuss thier own worth, probally whilst the B1's are changing wheels( round and black-at bottom of a/c) and fixing defects ( including avionic s as most items are not fitted in the cockpit, van or the crewroom- thier preffered residence )still at least they can usually be relied upon to adjust the T.V. aerial when the picture goes. Still, in the future thats the only use we will have for them on the line so its as well that they know how.

I have seen most b1 's trying to read a wiring diagram and the results are quite funny .Maybe they should stick to changing big round rubber things at the bottom of the aircraft and leave the technical stuff to the b2 (if you can get us out of the crew room)

Here we go again - mine's bigger than yours/I'm more important than you/I'm cleverer than you can understand, etc, etc, etc, etc.

When did you last hear drivers wittering on about P1 is more important than P2 (or similar)?

Aren't we all aiming to fix the damn thing and chuck it back up in the air so we all get paid?

Agreed the new system is c**p and the old one wasn't perfect either, but as engineers we sure as s**t won't get anywhere if we spend all our energy rubbishing each other.

Perhaps the system should require all approved engineers to be approved in all disciplines?
I never heard crew saying "I'm a better pilot because I do the landings and he only does the cruising bit in the middle...." - 'cos they all do all parts.

Why don't we? Think of the approval pay.....;)

So, when I'm on the ramp at 2 in the morning cold, wet, jacket pockets full of oil, helping some rigger change a prop governer 'cos I feel guilty leaving him on his tod, having for my sins been given an A license, spent hundreds of pounds on getting a JAA 66 so that I can still do a job I've been doing for 30 odd years & still smile when LMC ring up & say "Can you just do....... ". WAKE UP YOU LOT WE'RE IN THIS S@~T TOGETHER, & if we don't start pulling in the same direction the B~@#'$rd's will grind us all down.
Me bitter & twisted ? no , unless they ban alcohol :p
