HAECO
Yup, the canteen is something else, the tea is good, particularly if you like it strong with condensed milk. I worked there some (10) years ago. The reason they are a major maintenance hub is low price of course. As I remember there was a lot of semi skilled unlicensed labour and my key role was supervision and signatory.
I am now longer in the avionics engineering sphere, as I found the pay (generally, not just HAECO) non commensurate with the tasks and responsibilities involved. If you are young and want a taste of the Orient do it for 1 or 2 years and move on, Honkers offers a lot of experiences outside of work, and is in IMHO one of the best places to live in the far east. All the best in your endeavours. Gulf Clubber |
Was ADVISED to go for an interview several years ago on my hols in the area as the station I was on was being closed down. We were met and delivered to the A/Stn Eng in style and it went down from there. Pay for parking/uniform cleaning, only one a/c out of four licences held paid for. Hotel for 1 month then find your own accomodation even though your effects had to come by sea and take 3 months. A very basic rate of pay irrespective of experience etc etc. After a walk around a dirty workshop and a not much better hanger we called it quits and I've never looked back. The fact that the guy was an Aussie with a chip on both shoulders may have tipped it I suppose. Other mates who were there had had enough and were on their way out-guess things don't change for HAECO.
