CAP 741 Gap in experience
 

Hi All,

I have a query with the experience to be recorded in cap 741. I fall into the 5 year experience bracket for B1.1.

My query is, does this experience have to be consecutive or can it have a break in between as long as there are five years of maintenance tasks recorded and 6 months is recent.

For example, my first task was recorded in Jan 2012, I then record tasks through till Jan 2016, I then have an 18 month break (looking after sick relative) with no tasks recorded. The next recorded task is June 2017 and goes through until (for example) June 2020 (7 years of tasks if the break is subtracted).

Would this be satisfactory provided it met CAA criteria for content of tasks recorded?

I've contacted the Caa but still awaiting reply. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

I would think this is acceptable, however see the below (although not a direct answer)

Our Q.A dept will not send a licence application off to NAA without consecutive months experience.
Irish IAA require consecutive months in their logbook.

I think you should be OK, here's an extract from the UK CAA Website:
It looks like you fall into the 10 year limit for practical experience, I've highlighted the relevant chapter in bold.

• For category B2 and subcategories B1.1 and B1.3;
  • 5 years of practical maintenance experience on operating aircraft if the applicant has no previous relevant technical training.
  • 3 years of practical maintenance experience on operating aircraft and completion of training considered relevant by the competent authority as a skilled worker, in a technical trade;
    or
  • 2 years of practical maintenance experience on operating aircraft and completion of an approved Part 147 basic training course.
• The above experience requirement should be practical involving a representative cross section of maintenance tasks on operating aircraft specific to the category to be applied for.
  
  You must complete any training course, basic knowledge examinations and relevant practical maintenance experience within the 10 years preceding the application for an Aircraft Maintenance Licence.
  
  The recommendation document will need to be completed by a Quality Manager or the immediate senior person within the Quality Department of your current employer, or the organisation where the experience is gained.
