B757 Landing Gears

Hi,

Can any one tell me in a nice simple form the difference between a heavy weight gear and a light gear?

I think you will find the gear is the same, but the heavy weight has a beefed up airframe structure at the top of the gear.

The difference l think you will find is the LDG itself, you can fit a heavy weight gear in either a high gross weight a/c or a low weight a/c.

Certain parts of the gear assembly have different part numbers to allow heavy use.
There is a service letter that details the individual parts and their allowable MTOW, if any off the "lighter" parts are installed the entire gear is considered "light"
Even with the "heavy" gear installed the aircraft can only operate at the higher weights if relected in the FM, if not Mr Boeing wants around $100,000 for the paper exercise to allow the higher weight.

The wheels have different P/N, thus the gears itself are different, not only the structure.

Ones heavier than the other.....
