Can you mix a JT8D-15 and a JT8D-17 On wing
A technical question - can you mix a -17 and a -15 on wing? Looking at a B737 and if so what needs to be done to the -17 engine?
Thanks. |
Look on your AFM and MX books and see if it covers "operations with mixed engines".
Do not know what for the 737. In the 747, we can mix different dash number engines. Requires reduction of performance data, and labels on engine instruments. Was same story with the JT8D-7 and -9, or -11, -15, and -17 in the 727s. Basically requires reduced T/O EPR to the EPR of lowest "dash" xxx :ok: Happy contrails |
FAA TCDS A16WE 2 for the B737-200 below, A16WE 2 II. Model 737-200 (Approved December 21, 1967) Transport Aircraft Engines: 2 Pratt and Whitney Turbofan Engines JT8D-7, JT8D-7A, JT8D-7B, JT8D-9, JT8D-9A, JT8D-15, JT8D-15A, JT8D-17, and JT8D-17A; Refer to the FAA Approved Airplane Flight Manual for aircraft engine and engine intermix eligibility. It has been done in Indonesia.

We did that on B737-236, G-BGDS (or was it GDO or GDI) in 1985, after the Manchester incident. Put a -17AR on in place of a -15A, just operated at the -15A settings, the rented engines didn't come with auto throttle LVDT and wiring.;)
Remeber, but not clearly, the AMM having the info on mixing engine models, and check the fire detector system manufacture. |
Also chk on engine instrument requirements:- (Different yellow, amber and red sectors).
|
Can be done.....-17 will be needed to match -15.....All parameter indications/placarding needs to be done.

even after the usual routine to set the throttles up, there still was a stagger.
|
There will always be a throttle stagger on intermix engines.

Yes it can be done. Check your AMM
