Aileron Skin Repairs
Would anyone know where I can find an AMM (or any other) reference for carrying out an aileron skin replacement on a PA28?
Cheers, 2close |
AC43-13 is probably your best source for this. Simple enough job using standard techniques. Here's an interesting link, referring to the same.

Cheers stevef,
The PA28 AMM has nothing in it. CAP 562 (Old AWN) directs to AC 43-13 which in turn points to the....guess what...the manufacturer's instructions which I always thought was the AMM. I seem to have gone around in a circle. Thanks all the same. 2close |
PA28 repair
Does Piper not publish a SRM (structural repair manual) as part of the relevant aircraft publications, have you tried a Google search? Is there an owners club that may have this information?

2close: This is from the Avantext PA28 MM. Very vague but the skin replacement is straightforward. Can't remember if it comes with pilot holes but that's no problem if you use a hole locator.
4-57. STRUCTURAL REPAIRS. Structural repair methods used may be made in accordance with the regulations set forth in Federal Aeronautics Manual 18 or FAA Advisory Circular 43.13-1A. To assist in making repairs, Figure 4-10 identifies the type and thickness of skin structure used. Never make a skin replacement or patch from a material thinner than the original skin. Original material and thickness is recommended and must result in a surface which is as strong as, or stronger than, the original skin. However, flexibility must be retained so that the surrounding areas will not receive extra stress. When making major structural repairs, other than using factory manufactured parts, it is recommended the manufacturer be contacted. No major alterations are recommended without contacting the manufacturer. |
On contacting Piper for a Seneca repair scheme many moons ago.
"We make aircraft we don't repair them, try AC 43-13" |
Thanks for the assistance, guys.
Surprising how 'easy' it is, hey?;) Thanks again. |
