Mechanic/technician jobs in Spain?
Im posting on behalf of someone who would like to live in Spain. Do you know which companies there are in Spain that he could apply to to be a mechanic, technician etc?
Cheers. |
How much airframe and engine experience does he have on light aircraft?
|
None but he's graduating from college soon, he is working on aircraft there and has applied to Rolls Royce but we're just wanting to know if there are any companies out there to prepare.
|
That's a pity, Commander, if he'd got five years GA experience, I could have pointed him towards a job over here. Sorry!
Steve. |
Is it easy to find a job like that over in Spain if he had 2 years experience or is 4-5 mandatory?
We're hoping to move in about 1-2 years. |
Well, the company I work for requires a minimum of five years experience. I can't speak for other outfits but I'd imagine that fluent Spanish and appropriate group/type ratings would be necessary for a position elsewhere. As with GA anywhere, the salaries aren't great but Spain offers a good climate and lifestyle to compensate (as you no doubt know).
Buena suerte. |
Hey, i take it its alot cheaper to live over there than in Scotland? Do you have to know fluent Spanish though? I thought the general aviation language was English?
Where abouts are you? My boyfriend and I had a choice of moving to either Spain or the USA. |
Some things are certainly cheaper! Red wine at €0.90 per litre, brandy & whisky €7.00 a bottle upwards.
English might be the lingua franca of aircrew but not maintenance, unless you work in somewhere like Holland or Scandinavia. Fortunately most of the guys I work with in Andalucia can speak some English (two perfectly) and I'm slowly improving my Spanish but many aviation companies won't have mixed nationality groundcrew so you'd really need to learn the language to be in with a chance, imo. |
Ah, well I studied Spanish at college but I have become very rusty but I pick languages up very easily but my boyfriend can speak very little Spanish. Its a shame because we really wanna move there ASAP. Is there no British companies over there?
My boyfriend is a US citizen, would that cause problems? Cheers |
I don't know of any companies that you could approach, I'm afraid. You might get more feedback by asking in the Spanish forum and perhaps doing a websearch for definitive visa requirements.
