DC-8-71F Flight Control System
I am currently writing a report on the DC-8 flight control system for university. I have searched google for the answers and numerous books but have come up short on the following questions:
1. I know that the ailerons are power operated, but how is the actuator connected to the cockpit controls, cables, rods, electric? 2. I know that the rudder is also power operated but once again how is it connected to the cockpit controls? 3. How are the flaps connected to cockpit controls? 4. Is everything that is power operated connected to only a single hydraullic system or several? Any other additional information that may be pertinent is also welcomed. In advance thank you for any replies. Matt Durbin |

Matt Durbin 2.Again cables to actuator and then cables from actuator to rudder bellcranks. 3.Cables from cockpit controls are attached to the actuators if I remember correctly the hydraulic actuators move a large cable drum in each wheel well which then drives the flaps in the desired direction. 4. Here You come across one of the major design faults of the DC8 it has only 1 Hyd system, when I worked for Southern Air We had an incident where the A/C left the taxiway because of a single hyd pipe burst(no fuse protection on this part either) consequence was the A/C was in a turn and could not straighten itself. If any SAT Guys read this please add anything I have gotten wrong, particularly. JH,AR,PR,PK(on the A/C when it went on to the grass) and Myself DM:hmm: |
