FAR 65 Licence
The biggest obstacle for obtaining a FAR 65 A&P licence is justifying the need for it. Theres a good chance you are'nt working any N-reg a/c, only Aussie VH, maybe NZ ZK right? This is a prime requirement and a suitable letter from your QA dept stating the requirement + you current work on N-reg A/C. The exams for the licence are not overly complicated but can catch out a hardover mechanical Tech or hardover Avionic Tech. The oral + practical certainly is the big hurdle and even though the FAR 65 licence is famed for its ease of obtaining, not many stories feed through regarding the many individuals who fail - many at the oral and practical. This is performed by a FAA Designated Mechanic Examainer, lets put it this way - it wasn't easy for me! Any more info needed, send a PM BAe146?:{ :{ |
Hi stmstr,
If you have an Oz licence you should be ok theory wise, you don't say if you are mechanical or avionic. The exam is heavy on electrics, (well it was back in 18 fish and chips). Just be careful with some US 'translations' of the English. Regarding taking the exam outside the US, check with your local FAA office. There must be one in Sydney, (sorry, I haven't got my directory to hand). They will be able to give all necessary info. Good Luck JA |
Hmmm
Do you need this to get a start with an Australian based company servicing N Rego Big Girls locally or are you planning on trying for work in the US or just trying to back door the CASA exams.

Be aware the FAA endorse A&P licences issued outside of the good ol' USa with 'not valid in the USA' or something along those lines. They may also do this to foreign nationals writting exams etc within the usa post 9-11.:ok:
