B777 ATA27 F.B.W. Architecture Question

Attn: B777 Type Rated LAEs / AMTs

I had a recent chat with a gentleman regarding the use of fibre optic technology on B777 a/c for primary F.B.W. control. I've only ever worked
A320/A330 so I'm fully conversant with F.B.W. by definition but having
never worked the B777, I'm at a loss knowledge wise regarding this.

I don't have access to any B777 AMMs/training docs at present.

Without detailing too much, would it be possible for one of you guys
to describe if any particular ATA27 systems incorporate fibre optic technology at a primary or secondary level..

Thanks in advance

777 doesn't use fibre optics for FBW.

The only piece of fiber optics on a 777 is between the AIMS cabinets and the MAT (maintenance terminal). FBW are all shielded cables.

Cheers for the response. The chap in question is not rated on B777
either. He verbally quoted parts from his Mod5 course he completed
at Kidlington. Apparently, they used 'examples of Fibre Optic Technology' from the B777 F.B.W. systems:confused:  ...

I'm gonna ask him to bring in the notes next shift if he still has them.

I've still got Mod5 to do, I don't think I'll be going to Oxford.

Thanks again.

Having done a course at Kidlington I would recommend it, although it was a few years ago now. I would say that it's your mate that may have things wrong.

As LME(GOD) rightly says it is used but not in flying controls, not sure but not all even have the fibre optics in the AIMS cabinets.

On the B777 it's the OLAN (onboard local area network) that was fibre optic & as Spanners says it's controlled by AIMS & is used in AVLAN (avionics local area network), CMCS (central maintenance computing system) MAT, CABLAN (Cabin local area network) &
CMS (cabin management system). It's been dropped on the B777ER.
