working in brunei
anyone out there been working in brunei recently,if so any info regarding lifestyle would be appreciated.
|
Brunei, sleepy hollow, tax free, easy and safe life style for families ...guess you are responding to royal flight ad for stores and qa thru resource.
if you would like more detail, drop me a pm |
I see you live there Jango - are there two Bruneis? I went there in 2001 for 14 months.
When I was there, it was obvious that the country was impoverished; no investment in maintaining the infrastructure. Big hospitals mothballed and toilet paper for hand towels at that swish hotel, the name of which escapes me (The Empire?) From what I hear from friends still there, it is not getting any better. See Royal Brunei post in Far Eastern, Indian and Asian for a flavour of the situation. If you're after the very quiet life - no probs. If you're after big bucks, forget it. |
Indeed there was no investment during the 18 months Buzz spent in Brunei, but then there was a little matter of an Asia financial crash going on.
Jango is correct Brunei itself is as described, sleepy hollow, safe and boring. Not the best of places for a single chap, but for a young family great. The important thing is.... do not under any circumstances join RBA. Engineering is being destroyed from the inside by a local meglamaniac who unfortunately seems to be untouchable. At least 3 expats leaving as a direct result so far. Now over the other side of the runway is a different story. Seems to be just the normal gripes you would get from any expat working anywhere.... |
thanks for infowhich company is RBA?
|
Big Nuts,
PM with info regarding those leaving. I think it is a great shame that, with the potential resources available (maybe HMTS should sell some of his airline to help RBA), RBA is such dire straits. Recent reports indicate this situation may be having an impact on safety.:yuk: |
Now, now Bus some of us hairy arsed old codgers are still keeping an eye on things...
When the sheep turns to new pastures it'll be time to worry. |
for the boys still in brunesville, why is RBA in dire straits?
-not enuff expats -not enuff pay -row 54 balaclava standard issue -dropping 4 on 4 off rosta -expat bosses (past and present) dont know how to say no to locals -close to the mark, or not? if you looked after the good guys u used to have, you wouldnt be in dire straits now would you? live and learn. |
you wouldnt be in dire straits now would you? We certainly needed to get rid of one expat boss. Like his namesake Ozzie beer, plenty of fizz. no taste and no f--king action, but still leaves you with a big headache in the morning. He's gone now, thank goodness and with a dose of liver salts to flush out the system, we'll soon get over the headache. :} |
