I need to clarify a situation of possible conflicting information:

In a lead-acid battery, my sources of information tell me that the positive plate is made of lead-dioxide, which I'm happy with because that's what I always believed. A number of other publications have come to my attention that it is made of lead-peroxide. Now either both materials may be used, or on of my sources is wrong......

Lead Dioxide is alnternately referred to as Lead Peroxide.
***BUT***
The answer to your question is that it is "more" correct to identify Lead Dioxide as being used as the positive plate (just as you thought) because although it is used interchangeably with Lead Peroxide--that lead compound is not a true peroxide.
