Compounded twin spool turbprop?

A friend was recently apparently asked about a Compounded twin spool turboprop during a CAA Oral.

Can anyone provide any more basic info on this engine please?.....A look through several books has produced zilch!!

Thanks in advance

Maybe they are thinking of that god awful contraption they shoehorned into the Gannet years ago. A double mamba I think they called it. Some ex naval carrier types could probaly tell you more about it - or the trusy Janes.

Cheers

Its called a compound engine because the LP compressor is coupled to the reduction gear, while the HP compressor is free.
