Epaulettes
Hello guys.
Does anyone out there know where I can get some engineers epaulettes? I’ve tried all the places that I can think of but with no success. Cheers for any help and I await the humorous comments. |
Try "the flying shop" at Biggin hill.
I bought some from there a couple of years ago. They don't show them on their website, but they might still have some in stock. You might have to describe them, as the sales girl did not know that engineers eppaulettes existed! The flying shop |
Work under enough leaky wings, they'll come on their own.

Hope some BMI guys are looking at this forum, as they seem to walk around as pilots, sad.
|
747, don't you get the stripes nowadays then???
|
I once had four bars. Did put a bit of a prance in my step.
|
Denzil, happy to say that I no longer wear them. Although to be honest with you I did at a "particular" airline I worked for,and a four ringer at that. The company that I work for now is more into fashion and glamour than importance,or the belief of importance.
Even pilots have no caps!!!!!!!!! |
NO CAP'S, that must be an ASR!!!!!! I'm back to a stripe wearing company.
|
Try silver top taxi's main depot,I'm sure they have plenty.lol:ok:
|
Denzil, is your stint in the far east over? Where are you mate?
Who are you working for with a uniform like that??????? |
Denzil, you still got them shiny shoes, bet you will love them now if you still have them, because you can see yourself with the stripes in them.
Why do you not reply? |
Try Oxford Air Training School for the epaulettes. As for shiny shoes, nothing wrong with a smart attire. If you want to talk to the gentleman, why don't you just send him a PM.

Any of you epaulette experts know the significance of the purple band in the center of the bars, I think it comes from the steam ship days.
Aye Aye Captn. With my company's comunication you might as well be blowing down a bloody tube! |
I always thought that the purple stripes were there so that any tight ar5e captain who misplaced one of his bars, couldn't "borrow" one from a flight engineer!
|
well heated ice detector, I am no epaulette expert but I also heard there was a nautical basis for the purple stripe, apparentley in memory of the engineering officers lost on the Titanic.Or so i was told.
Although 419's theory makes sense.... |
When I was given my first epaulettes as a licensed eng I wore them with pride doing a job I had immense pride in.
Now neither of these exist. The purple stripe was awarded by King George to Merchant Sea Engineers who lost thier lives or did very brave acts keeping merchant shipping afloat at war. Formally gongs, bars etc were only awarded to Service personnel. |
The colour for engineers on epaulettes is Royal Purple as a tribute to the engineers that went down with the Titanic.
Nonetheless, King George V decreed engineering officers ever after would display their gold braid epaulets upon a "royal purple" background as a memorial to the Titanic engineers. This is a quote from a website. http://encyclopedia.laborlawtalk.com/RMS_Titanic If you bumped into any engineers from the large airlines, I'm sure they'd be able to throw some 'lettes your way. |
Hi all, re epaulettes, I know the Royal Aust Navy has coloured bands (red) between medical officers stripes. Ships electrical officers used to have green (hence ships electricians are known as greenies) and I'm sure that stoker officers had purple. Perhaps a hangover from this type of identification?

Going back to the Original Question,
were you able to get any Engineer Epaulettes ?, if so where did you get them and how much did they cost ?. Reason for asking is that I'm after some as I've just gone onto the Line from the Heavy Hanger, Everyone else has them but the Management have decided that we the Engineers dont need them any more so will not order them for me. |
AAhhhh ! now why did you not say that?
why don't you ask management where they used to ge them from, and give them a call! Rather than all this talk about the titanic etc !:ok: |
