Polishing PT-6 exhaust stacks

What are the copper / brass looking exhaust stacks on the king airs made out of, and what works well ot polish them up. Will they go to crap after the first start??? any tips would be great.

Hi there,

They are made of a material called Inkernel (spelling?)

Formula one exhausts are made of the same stuff - heard MB talking about it during the Spanish GP last month - after Schu cracked his. Funny thing was that I had just been in the hangar talking to the nut stranglers about a cracked exhaust on one of our PT6's!

"Nut stranglers"???? Never heard that one. Not bad, though.

I have tried several car polishes, to no success, thought it might have worked, thought of trying brasso, any tips, thanks for the background info.

For the King Airs there is a range of STC's to keep the exhaust residue off the nacelles & even one with shiny exhausts. But they all cost money.

As for polishing the standard inconel exhausts, don't bother, besides the darker colour transfers heat away from the exhausts better anyway.
