Apprenticeships Anyone?

My nephew has a hankering to be an Aircraft Engineer (could be worse, he could have wanted to be a pilot).

He's not to keen on staying on at school to do his 'A' levels and had hoped to do them at college. Problem is none of the local colleges do the subjects he wants.

So, the questions are:-

1. Do any airlines offer apprenticeships these days?

2. If so, which ones?

3. Will they expect him to already have his 'A' levels (I suspect they will) or are there any schemes whereby he can do them as he goes along?

4. What about the military?

Looking forward to your replies...........

i think B.A., klm uk and British European still do apprentiships. another option is to go to university to get a qualification which you can convert to a JAA66 C licence, but with that he would become a pen pusher rather than hands on.
B.E. headquarters in Exeter, KLM UK in norwich, not sure for B.A. if it is london or cardiff.i think that it is g.c.s.e. level qualifications they are looking for as most apprentices start at 16.
