Daily and weekly checks
 

Hello there,

I fly A320 and I was curious about daily and weekly checks. Do they have to be valid for the whole duration of the flight or just for blocks off? What if it expires during the flight? I was struggling to find reference for a couple of weeks now.

I cannot speak for other airlines but the company I work for, the daily check was an elapsed 24 hours from when the sign off of the last check. The weekly check was an elapsed 7 days. If and aircraft was due to be way from main base during the expiration of a weekly check, then it would be called early, so the check would not "drop-dead" while the aircraft was away from main base. Daily checks on A320 were normally carried out at main base, so the expiry would never be away from base, as they only normally had one night away maximum.

As I say, this is how it worked in the airline I work at for both short haul types like the A320 right through to long haul types like Boeing 777, Airbus A380 etc.

Depends on your regulator, and what is agreed between them and the operator in the Approved Maintenance programme for the aeroplane whether it has to be valid for just the commencement of the flight or for whole of flight. Your CAMO / DOM should advise you as regards your particular operation.

However, as a rule of thumb, as long as it is valid at commencement of flight you are good to go, if it times out during flight and then has to be carried out before further departure, then that is a matter for your maintenance control (or similar) to worry about.

And, just to confuse more some aeroplane types ' Daily' check can be 24 hrs, not to exceed 48 hrs between checks

Your flight is clear of any maintenance due intevals. If it is not, your aircraft insurance is invalid. You see a problem in your sector roster and the tech log info, call your maintrol or LMC and get the kite cleared for the duty before you go. The CAMO can kick off then. So many muck ups by crews not seeing tech log holes.
