Aircraft Engineering trainee advice
 

Hi guys,

Last year I completed a Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering and have been trying to get a trainee job/apprenticeship in Aircraft Maintenance for the past year, but no luck. All the opportunities I had lined up, such as BA/Virgin have stopped (obviously due to Covid) and I'm really stuck as to what to do. I cannot apply for an experienced role as I don't have any and I only did the theory aspect (so don't hold any form of licence).

Is it possible to offer my services to some smaller companies just to get some experience?? Or is that not feasible, and just wait for some reopenings which would most likely be next year. I am 21 as it is and don't really want to waste another year.

Thanks for any advice as to how to get my foot through the door.

Hi,

as you see in the news aviation has took a big hit and there are many people out of work.
However, there are still a small amount of apprenticeship openings, these are usually subsidised from government so continue to be offered.
if you search : ‘Resource group’ as they have lots of links with companies who run apprenticeships

also ‘Exeter aerospace’ has just announced openings to be created.

contact all the companies you can, even though it’s difficult you need all the opportunities you can get.

A route to consider is to join the Forces, in an unstable time for commercial Aviation you can get a good career under your belt.
