New 747 documentary

I'm writing from a UK TV production company, Elephant House Studios, part of Channel 5. We're making a celebratory two part 747 documentary series, to mark 50 years since roll out and I'd love some help from the forum community. The archive led documentary series will air in 2018 (2x60).

Episode 1 covers the epic challenges Boeing faced in the late 60’s as they battled to create the prototype.
Episode 2 explores the impact of the aircraft on the airliner industry, what it meant for passengers and looks at the long in service life of the aircraft - more of a social history.

I would be especially interested to hear from people involved in the early years 65'-75' or those who spent their careers in or around the aircraft. For budget reasons we are limited to where we can film these interviews. Seattle or UK, in May 2018.

Perhaps you were hands on, earning amazing overtime dealing with the early PW engines at Heathrow. Maybe you were cabin crew for Pan Am, on the assembly line at Everett, flew one for thirty years, or even ordered them for BA? As this is a a UK documentary series, airing in the UK first, we would love to find British angles and voices on a primarily US story - perhaps you are a Brit who worked at British Airways, Boeing or Roll Royce? If you think you might be of interest and can talk confidently regarding the aircraft and your part in its story, please do get in touch [email protected]

Please remember that I can only accommodate people based in the Seattle area or the UK, filming in May 2018, apologies for this limitation.

Kind regards,
Nick Watson

Hi Nick,
Good luck with the series.
I worked for Qantas in Sydney from 1975 - early days with the 747s, Fifth podding PWJT9-7F engines (bolting them under the wing - 5th engine!!) with regularity - sending them back to the States for overhaul. Smoky, noisy, unreliable water injected engines.!!!
Great jets though - I miss them.
Regards...JS.
