Cranfield University - anybody?
 

Hello,

I am searching masters in Safety/Human Factors (aviation) and engineering like for example avionics or structures. I have found Cranfield University, anybody knows the reputation of this university in aviation? are there better ones in Europe?

The reputation of the university and Prof Graham Braithwaite in aviation is excellent and commercially I think you'll emerge with good contacts.

That said if human factors is a focus I'd contact Dr.Kathy Abbott at the FAA and ask for guidance because I don't think our investigator does that part especially well.

There aren't any better postgraduate universities in Europe than Cranfield. There are also some good human factors people teaching at Cranfield, as well as the more traditional Engineering subjects. I share PE's opinion of Prof. Braithwaite - but he's only one of 100+ academics there.

That said, have a look at City University London, and TU Delft in The Netherlands as well, if only for comparison purposes.

TU Delft is in the list already, here in NL has a very high reputation. I have searched a lot in internet about Cranfield and I couldn't really find anything. It's nice to know I think I have made a good choice! to everybody thank you and if there are bad reputations around (I hope not) please let me know.. I hope that this post will be also useful for other students :)

I'm amazed you couldn't find much about Cranfield - their website alone will take you all day to go through.

I work with quite a few universities - and one thing that's very noticeable is that their postgraduate students are on average significantly better (define that word as you wish) than those at any other UK university I deal with.

The place is being significantly restructured at the moment, so I suspect you'll be the victim of a small amount of chaos and confusion. That said, most close to the place tend to agree that the changes being made will ultimately all be to the good.

I once met a graduate of Cranfield in Qatar.. Technically a brilliant fellow, but he had the social skills of a flaming arsehole! Not relevant, I know... :)

Opinions are divided about professional engineers. Some people think that disfunctional personalities are compulsory, some just recommended.
