Hot radio stack
Hi Guys, just wondering what might be causing a radio stack to feel hot?
Specifically, I am flying a 1974 pa-32 300hp with king KR 85 TSO ADF and KX175B TSO. The nav/comm is warm, not too bad but the ADF is almost too hot to touch. I have all selectors switched to off. This makes no difference to the heat. Switching avionics off cools the nav comm but the adf remains hot. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks |
Can not say to much about this other than researching the cooling or temperature operating requirements of your equipment.

Well I would say that its not wired into your avionics bus.
And its still getting power and the heat is coming from the internal gubbins. Its a particular old large analog device and not very power efficient. |
you could also check the back lighting, a major source of heat on airliner flt decks comes from the lighting. and is often on a lighting buss.
also ensure the forced air cooling hoses are attached, and not blocked. |
ADF
Removing the box and get the wifes vacuum cleaner, amazing how much fluff collects around these electrical boxes.
Be interesting to know what you find. TW |
Good day mate!
Is there a heated air source behind the panel? Possibly has a hole blowing warm air across radios? This assumes that normal cooling for radios is working well. I'm not familiar with your installation but King ADF should not run hot,. Is this a factory installation or aftermarket install. Regards, Putt |
Any update?
