Advice to get to back into Engineering

Hi,

I used to work for BAE Systems on the Euro-fighter programme. I left to travel in 2009 and on my return in 2010 struggled to get back into the industry. As a result I worked in retail and am now working as in field marketing and sales for various brands.

We have just been made redundant and I am now wanting to use this time to focus my efforts in getting back into Engineering.

The barriers i am facing are the short amount of time I had at work, just under three years, and the length of time I have been out of work. the feedback I get, if any is the typical 'not enough experience' or sometimes for security clearance my year in Australia as I have not been in the UK for the last 5 years.

What advice do any of you have for me to get back into the industry? Would anyone be prepared to look at my CV to give me advice on what best way it would be to tailor it?

Possibly try applying for one of these MSc scholarships being advertised by RAeS/RAEng to do an appropriate MSc - that should re-set your skills and equip you back into the game? There's a thread I started here that gives you the links:-

If you happen to be a woman, there's a rather juicy scholarship scheme at Brunel you could look at as well:-

And quite a few other schemes out there. There's a big push on at the moment to get people like you masters-level qualified and back into the right positions in the industry.

I'd be happy to look at your CV if you want. boffin (at) engineer (dot) com will get me.
