Expert Helicopter Witness
 

I have a friend who was very badly injured in a helicopter accident in Australia, and needs to employ an expert witness to give unbiased advice relating to maintenance matters. This relates specifically to what should be checked in an R22 100hourly inspection. This would require someone with helicopter maintenance qualifications and extensive experience on R22 maintenance and repairs.

What should be checked at a 100 hourly is listed in the R22 maintenance manual in detail in section 2 ( i think from memory ) titled inspections , providing the Log Book Statement says In Accordance With the Robinson Helicopter R22 Maintenance Manual ( which in nearly all cases it should ) it would also depend on the Maint. Manual revision at the time as it has changed over the years , I am no expert but have maintained the R22 for quite a few years .

I've done quite a lot of expert witness work, although this would be well outside of my personal expertise - and I'm the other side of the world.

The courts will likely accept anybody who is sufficiently experienced in the subject matter, capable of writing good prose (there'll be a lot of report writing involved), and completely independent of any party in the case.

I'd look to a large local R22 operator/maintenance organisation and see if you can buy some time from their Chief Engineer or Quality Manager. Tell them to find out what the lawyers in the case are charging per hour and to charge about the same.
