Barking aircraft

Hey all you clever engineers out there...

Maybe one of you can help - what will cause a Cessna Caravan's engine (PT6-114A) to "bark" during taxy? Sounds like a compressor stall or something. Popping noises, only during taxy. Any help would be appreciated

Ha ha ha ha ha!

Very funny... :D

Okay, seriously

Had this a few times while looking after SFPA A/c at Pik, try a really good compressor and even more important a turbine wash, if your A/C flies low:ok: over sea water it will take a couple of good washes to cure. Good tip to aircrew when you see rain fly into it best wash going.
Keep they flying Peter

most likely the bleed valve if happening on taxi..

Beaver man 26th Oct 2006 14:37

I'll go with a bleed problem, Possibly valve, or incorrect switch selection...oh no, it won't be that, you're a pilot after all!!!

Thanks for the replies everyone

We fly through plenty of rain up here in West Africa... Thanks Peter, didn't realise it was good for the engine!;)

It only barks in low idle and not the first flight of the day for some reason. We've been taxying in high idle in the meantime until someone can look at it. No strange instrument indications shown.
Will post again when they've found the problem... going for maintenance this weekend

Take care:ok:

flying into the rain will do f..k all good for your engine..dont aim at it thinking it will..sticky bleed valve. please post the results

Jlo 29th Oct 2006 09:31

Thanks, we do open the inertial seperator in heavy rain. Will post once problem found. I think they have replaced the bleed valve and it is still doing it

Jlo 11th Nov 2006 13:58

Bleed valve was replaced a few weeks ago - didn't solve it. Compressor wash done during service and no problem found with the compressor blades... Suspect problem to be FCU - taxying in high idle until the part arrives.

Will see if that changes anything :ugh:

sounds like a winner...
