C-172 Distorted Wing Spar

I am not an engineer so apologise in advance for any mistakes in terminology.

I also appreciate this may be difficult to answer without seeing for oneself, however, could anyone give me a rough prognosis on distortion to the top cap, about 1/4" separation along a length of about 6" from the main spar, the distortion being slightly inboard from the wing strut and visible through the rear inspection panel.

I need to get a B Engineer to examine it asap but can't get on to that until next week and was hoping, in the meantime, someone with experience may be able to give an idea whether that amount of distortion could be spliced or whether I am looking at replacing the wing.

Any ball park figures on cost and time for either job would also be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

What happened to the wing leading up to the twist?

Thanks for the reply, Mootyman,

To be completely honest, I have absolutely no idea.

It is a group owned aircraft and I doubt that any one person is going to put their hands up to having punched her into the ground on landing or having flown it well outside the envelope. I'll find out tomorrow when all are 'around the table'.

Could there be other less obvious causes that I am missing?

Regardless of the cause, any idea on prognosis?

Have you ruled out corrosion, if not corrosion then it has to have been overstressed.
