ATA Chapter Numbering
Another of those oddball queries - does anyone know why the ATA Chapter numbering starts at 21 for the systems and why does it increment oddly?
|
The aircraft system chapters are placed alphabetically, and everyone knows that A is the 21st letter of the alphabet.....obvious really when you think about it???????????

why is servicing chapter 12?
APU 49 ? etc etc (my guess is as good as anyones but probably due to obscure ATA numbering early on in the early piston engine days) etc etc The ATA came up with a numbering system a long time ago but modern a/c have developed systems for which there was no definable chapter. (Hence all the odd numbers) where you could slot in a new system. (take the 777 for example where all the aims stuff is in a new chapter which you will not find in , for example a 737 etc) [This message has been edited by spanners (edited 29 August 2000).] |
Don't matter any how...it all gets filed under 99 anway!

Jango, you do that too? I keep explaining to my co-workers that 9900 is the universal, all encompassing ATA code. It keeps the logbook computers happy.
All great minds and such. |
While on the subject, could anyone explain what ATA stands for, please?
Thanks. http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/confused.gif |
